To have control over something you are unable to measure is a somewhat of a challenge!
In recent years the pressure to expand capacity led to an explosion in demand for data center servers.
This in turn has driven the development of new technologies, specifically powerful blade servers.
As components become more powerful, they require often more current and produce more heat, which causes strain on the power and cooling infrastructure.
Power demand has increased from a few kW per rack, to tens of kW over the last decade.
The challenge is how to manage these effects, and manage capacity in the data center and especially the temperature of the rack-level!
